We are a partnership of 7 full time GPs and two part-time PMS doctors with a list size of approximately 14,800 patients. While mainly based in Newton Aycliffe and Woodham Village, we also cover 2 smaller outlying villages and the countryside around about. We dispense from our small branch surgery in Heighington Village. We were awarded the RCGP Quality practice award in 2000; it was presented to the whole practice team by our local M.P. Tony Blair.

We have had new purpose built premises since 1990 and became a training practice in 1994, and also take medical students from Newcastle Medical School. There is a reasonable library, digital camera and Internet access. All the doctors are involved with teaching/ training to some degree.

We are fully computerized [Torex Synergy]. We are members of the Sedgefield area PCT and one of our partners is on the PEC and also the mental health lead. The partners have a wide range of interests within medicine including education; minor operations and we are medical officers for Aycliffe Centre for Children [a young offenders institution]. One of the partners also does a hospital endoscopy session.

We have diabetic, family planning, child surveillance/immunization, antenatal clinics, and nurse-led asthma, COPD, CHD, well person, adolescent and menopause clinics. A local paediatrician does a monthly clinic at the surgery. We have weekly business meetings, monthly clinical meetings, and PHCT meetings too.

The registrar is expected to show the same commitment to on-call duties as a partner. During the day (8.30 am to 6 pm) therefore, the registrar's on-call commitment is approximately 1 in 7. Some out of hours experience will be available, accompanied by one of the trainers, through the Bishop Auckland Urgent Care Centre. Any additional experience required will have to be negotiated with other out-of-hours trainers known to us.

Outside of working commitments we are interested in family lives, in outdoor and sporting pursuits, and in quality alcoholic drinks, in moderation.

Five of our partners and both our PMS doctors are ex-Cleveland VTS Registrars.
