Pleasantly situated 10 miles north of Teesside in
the rolling south Durham countryside, this highly
desirable practice rural practice has a lot to
offer the aspiring GP Registrar/General
Practitioner.
We have four premises. Three are modern and spacious
purpose-built premises, one not so, in the
farming/commuting village of Sedgefield (pleasant
outlook on local undertakers) and the up and coming
ex-pit villages of Fishburn and the Trimdons. The
practice provides care for over 16,000 patients,
situated in six villages plus hamlets and farms
scattered over 80 square miles of countryside. The
practice has all ‘mod cons’, is fully computerised
(iSOFT) and has a genuine fully working Primary
Health Care Team. We have our own GP Hospital with
access to our own beds, X-ray, Physiotherapy and
Consultant Outpatient clinics in elderly care
plastic surgery and Paediatrics.
We currently have 8 partners and 1 salaried GPs .All
but one are ex local GPRs. The practice has been
training since 1992.
A most attractive aspect of this well established
training practice is its habit of meeting in the pub
most Friday lunch times (you don’t have to drink
beer).
The practice has three Trainers plus one partner who
is a Royal College examiner. The practice is
involved in research, was the first practice in
County Durham to achieve the RCGP Quality Practice
Award and one of six practices in the County to get
the Beacon Practice Award in 1999. The practice is
also heavily involved in undergraduate teaching and
Foundation programme clinical supervision.
The practice does almost all its minor operations
and would give training to Registrars in this skill.
The Out of Hours component of GPR Training will be
undertaken at the Bishop Auckland Urgent Care
Centre.
