Eaglescliffe Medical Practice was originally set up
in 1974 as a single-handed practice. We have now
slowly grown to a list size of just over 8,000
patients. There are two full-time male GP’s and
three part-time female GP’s all of whom are
reasonably young! We are fully supported by a very
friendly team of staff including a full time nurse
practitioner and we use EMIS computer system.
The philosophy of the practice is to support both
the partners and staff and within that offer
flexibility. We feel this really works to pull the
whole team together. The registrar’s working week
involves protected teaching time split over three
days, as well as the half-day release for the VTS
and flexibility over surgery times. Once confident
we expect the registrar to help with the partner’s
day call rota, which equates to 1x/week. No partners
currently do Out of Hours sessions so OOH sessions
for the GP Registrar are arranged with Primecare via
the Scheme.
Angela Waterhouse is a relatively new trainer but
the practice at Eaglescliffe traditionally has a
long-standing interest in teaching and is also at
present involved in teaching undergraduate medical
students. All members of the team are keen to be
involved in teaching and the partners themselves
have various outside interests, which include
immediate care medicine (BASICS), family planning,
clinical governance and GP appraisal.This
