We are a five-partner practice working with three
full time salaried doctors and an assistant, looking
after around 16,500 patients in Hartlepool and the
surrounding villages. We operate from two purpose
built surgeries in different parts of the town. The
main surgery, McKenzie House, was extended in 2003
and the registrar has their own purpose built room
adjacent to the trainer’s room. The extension was
built in collaboration with Hartlepool PCT to
incorporate a new NHS ‘one stop shop’ which includes
physiotherapy, chiropody, counselling services and
PCT community staff offices.
The practice is fully computerised (IPS Vision3) and
paper light, with Internet access in each consulting
room. We have a full time Practice Manager, an
Assistant Practice Manager and a Nurse Manager. Our
four nurse practitioners run daily open access
clinics to practice protocols. They help the on call
doctor with emergency consultations, dealing with
minor ailments.
We are a PMS practice and have recently become a
training practice. Drs Timlin is an ex-Cleveland GP
Registrar.
All the doctors share daytime on call duties
equally. The practice opted out of out-of-hours from
April 2004. Out of hours experience can be obtained
by working supervised sessions with Primecare.
The partners have varied outside interests covering
occupational medicine, police work, racecourse
doctor and drug rehabilitation. A number of partners
are Section 12 approved under the Mental Health Act
and undertake Mental Health assessments regularly.
