We are a three doctor rural dispensing practice, in
the village of Stillington which is situated in the
countryside between Stockton and Sedgefield. The
practice has patients from the surrounding villages
and in addition the suburban area on the north east
fringe of Stockton covering an area of 42 square
miles in total. We are a small practice with a
present population of 4,050. Our patients come from
a wide range of social and economic backgrounds.
The surgery purpose built in 1990 was extended in
1999 to enable us to become involved in the GP
Training Scheme. Registrars have their own
consulting room. There is a library/seminar room for
teaching and a common room for meetings. The library
has a stock of medical textbooks, journals, computer
software and internet access. We have a
comprehensive range of equipment including video
facilities. The computer is fully used during
consultations and we are a paper-light practice.
Minor surgery experience is offered.
The practice runs a form of Advanced Access during
morning and afternoon surgeries. We are closed
Tuesday afternoons for practice meetings and
training sessions. A half-day protected time is
provided for weekly teaching sessions which are
pre-arranged. The practice uses Primecare as its’
‘Out of Hour’ provider. The registrar will be
supervised by the trainer on six ‘6 hourly’ ‘OOH’
sessions with Primecare during the course of a six
month placement.
Our aim is to provide a friendly, supportive
atmosphere in which the Registrar can experience and
become involved in all aspects of general practice.
