The surgery is housed in modern, purpose built premises, in the centre of Stockton with adjacent car parking. Attached is a health authority annex for phlebotomy, which is a base for the attached staff of Health Visitors, Midwife and Community Nurses. The practice has a designated tutorial/ teaching room with library and P.C.- internet access (also broadband internet access from GPR’s own room PC) as well as a comprehensive range of surgery equipment including an ECG machine (hyperlinked to the pts PC record) and spirometers, minor surgery and cryotherapy kit and teaching aids, including video equipment. We operate with 3 practice nurses, 2 nurse practitioners and 2 healthcare assistants (who do B/Ps, ECGs, spirometry and simple medical/nursing/admin tasks). We have a practice based “gateway” mental health worker in addition to weekly visits from the elderly care CPN and the Macmillan nurse is included in a GP- nursing team 2 monthly “gold standard framework” palliative care meeting.

We have approximately 13,000 patients and largely operate personal lists with cross cover. We achieved the RCGP QP Award in 2001 and are “going for it” again in 2006. We are a GMS new contract practice and achieved 1,040+ QOF points this year, 2005. We use Synergy software and operate a paper-lite system with Internet access from all rooms including the GPR’s dedicated consulting room. There are 8 partners in the practice, 7 full-time (7sessions or more per week) and a balance of age ranges and gender. Partners have special expertise in joint/rheumatology examination and injection, sports injury, minor surgery, PCT working and commissioning and appraisal. There are 2 monthly Journal club meetings where you are a participant in presentations as you are with quarterly significant event learning meetings. We also take medical students (years 1, 3 and 5) from Newcastle/ Stockton campus, and 2 partners (Iain Bonavia and Mary Naisby) are tutors at the Medical School Stockton campus with Iain being a Senior Medical Tutor with responsibilities for the in-practice student teaching program. The 3 most recent partners in the practice have graduated from the Cleveland VTS.

Duty day sessions are 8am-1pm and 1pm-6pm (= to 2 sessions per 7 working days). Under the new GMS contract, with the practice having “opted out” of Out of Hours service provision, your trainer, in conjunction with the scheme/ PCT and OOH provider, will arrange specific opportunities for OOH experience.

Partners; Rob Sagoo, Tony McKenna, Iain Bonavia, Jonathan Berry, Mary Naisby, Rupert Smith, Tracey McClintock and Ish Rehman.
