Thornaby & Ingleby Barwick Medical Group,
Health Centre, Trenchard Avenue, Thornaby,

Thornaby & Barwick Medical Group is a large practice
serving the needs of Thornaby and Ingleby Barwick,
and the small village of Maltby with a total
practice population of over 19,000 patients.
There are nine partners and one salaried GP in the
practice which operate from two state of the art
purpose-built surgeries. We are looking to expand
further in the future. We currently provide all of
the usual services, complemented in this task by a
nursing team of two nurse practitioners and five
practice nurses and other attached clinical and
administrative staff.
The practice teaches medical students and GPSTR’s
currently and you will not be short of teaching and
support. The partners’ medical interests are wide
ranging and together we form a complementary team
with a very wide skill and knowledge base. As a
registrar you would be expected to contribute to
team educational meetings.
You will be expected to consult from both surgeries
and and this will give you the experience of
different environments, problems and patients and
may assist with your choice of future practice. You
will be expected to take part in on-call within the
practice on a 1 in 9 basis from 8am-6pm Monday to
Friday, but will never be left to cope alone.
Socially we are a diverse bunch with a wide
perspective on life, and have hobbies including fine
food appreciation, mountain-biking, squash, horse
riding, photography, travel, gardening….and indeed
many others!
Our Registrar Dr. Louise Reed’s brief description
of the practice is below :
TBMG offers a training program second to none! It
is difficult to summarise this into a couple of
sentences but one aspect I have particularly enjoyed
is working from two sites and the diversity of the
patient TBMG serves; from quite different social
backgrounds, this will test and challenge your
clinical and negotiating skills. There is never a
dull moment – the whole team works dynamically
bringing the support, administration and clinical
staff together and with regular meetings this makes
the experience great fun and truly rewarding! I
highly recommend it!
