The practice is based in Peterlee and also has a
second surgery in Easington. There are over 15,000
patients and 13 GPs (both full and part-time)
working at the surgeries. We use systmone computer
system. We believe that a good general practice
works well as a team and ours includes the nursing
team, pharmacy team, counsellors and a psychologist.
Each GP has a special interest and we offer minor
surgery, a full contraceptive service including
implant and intrauterine device fitting and one GP
specialises in ophthalmology.
We have a strong training and educational ethos at
the practice and train foundation doctors as well as
GPStRs. Each week we have an education meeting and
each GP takes responsibility for the topic in a
rota. We encourage the GPStR to run some of the
meetings during their time at the practice. Dr
Anderson is an Associate Director with the Northern
Deanery and we will soon have an additional trainer
at the practice. By learning together, we believe
that the practice can improve standards of care for
our patients.
Our surgery offers extended hours from 800-2000
Monday to Friday and Saturday mornings. As a GPStR
you will not be expected to work beyond 6pm at the
surgery but you will have to undertake some OOH
sessions as part of your training requirement. This
is through Primecare at Sunderland and will be
organised when you start at the practice.
The practice covers a very deprived area of the
North East and you will have an opportunity to see a
variety of conditions, both acute and chronic. The
practice is busy but rewarding. There is lots of
support from the GP trainers, other GPs and the rest
of the team.
In July 2008, the practice started a PMS contract
with Intrahealth Ltd. We believe our practice is
innovative and embrace changes and improvement to
the care we provide.
